What is CranioSacral Therapy?
A gentle touch that treats the craniosacral system
CranioSacral Therapy is a hands-on non-invasive, powerful therapeutic touch that treats the entire central nervous system assisting in improving the function of whole body.
The cranio-sacral system comprises of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protect the brain and spinal cord.
By using a soft touch with no greater pressure than that of 5 grams, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system. This improves the functioning of the central nervous system, and other connective tissues systems throughout the body.
Improvements will be generated throughout the digestive system, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more listed below .
CST has been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as Post Traumatic Stress, depression and anxiety.
CST was developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
Ideally, we want alignment with the fascia and meningeal membranes that surround and support the brain and spinal cord, the bones of the head to which they attach and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain.
When these structures are all well aligned, the fluid can flow round the brain and spinal cord easily and the rest of the body is having optimal impact on the entire system.
Using our ‘listening hands’, tuned to the feeling of the craniosacral rhythm, we feel how well the rhythm is reflecting out to the rest of the body and this guides what to do to improve function.
By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and has been shown to be beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of healthcare challenges and symptoms including:
